Did You know about the following resources?

Parents are often wondering what they can do at home to support their children’s education.  There are resources available that teachers can share with parents.  Here is an introduction to some of the resources that parents can access throughout the school year.

The following resource gives parents practical ideas on fun and everyday ways to help their children in the areas of reading, writing and math. This resource provides parents with simple ways that they can support their children’s education at home.  This website also provides parents with other helpful links to help their children succeed at school.  The Ministry of Education is providing links to websites that provide parents with tips, resources, advice and news for a variety of topics for kids and parents.

There is also a list of compiled websites that have been designed with both parents and children in mind at the following link-- http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/howcanihelp.html.  Some of the links provide reading and math activities that parents can enjoy with their children.

Another important link that shouldn’t be missed is the Parent Toolkit that is available to help parents to support their children’s education: (http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CFUQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ontariodirectors.ca%2FParent_Engagement%2FPA%2520Downloads%2FCODE%2520Parent%2520Toolkit.pdf&ei=KrhIU4aIAqie2QXL8YGoCw&usg=AFQjCNFiT3p3FwOffYYuxXjrSavIFPL0EQ&sig2=m_D4a6DguNZm5Cqq4Bpn9w&bvm=bv.64542518,d.b2I&cad=rja) .  It provides parents with ideas on how to support their children’s education at home and why this is important.

Do you ever get frustrated with trying to help your children with their Math?  Here is a free online resource that provides math tutoring by an Ontario teacher.  This resource is available for Grades 7-10 from 5:30 to 9:30 pm.  Click here for more information.

Finally, the OERB has many resources that parents can use to help their children with their homework and even assignments.  The OERB has many educational resources including interactive lessons, videos and activities.  It is very easy to use keywords in order to search for ideas.
